Asthma: Recognize Your Symptoms

If you have asthma, dealing with your condition relies greatly on how you can recognize the symptoms and learn to prevent either their occurrence or their exacerbation. It may take some time before you can do that, but once you have achieved sufficient familiarity with the specific manifestations of the disorder in your particular case, you will discover that asthma is not by far unmanageable and that its general influence on your life doesn't have to be too strong.

It all starts, in fact, with identifying your condition. Asthma symptoms include difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, wheezing, headaches, sneezing, coughing and fatigue. In the first phases, when the symptoms are still mild, asthma can easily be mistaken for something else. Some of them can also indicate a simple cold, while tiredness and breathing difficulties can often be ascribed to potential fitness deficiencies if they occur as a result of physical exercise. But if you experience these symptoms often, or if several of them occur at the same time, it's a sign that you might need to see a doctor.

Once your doctor has diagnosed you as suffering from asthma, it's time to start making some changes in your life. Feeling hopeless and defeated will not help, so you should consider a more active approach. Knowing your symptoms and what is likely to cause them, as well as being able to recognize the warning signs can greatly improve your condition. Not only does it reduce uncertainty - not knowing when an attack can happen often causes anxiety, which can actually trigger a stroke -, but it can also help you avoid the substances and activities you are sensitive to.

Gradually, you will become better and better aware of what your body is going through, which will give you the upper hand in the battle against asthma.
